Supreme Court eases firecracker ban in Delhi-NCR
New Delhi: Diwali is the festival of lights that fills homes with glowing diyas, colourful fairy lights, and the crackle of firecrackers.
But each year, this celebration coincides with a complete ban on the sale and bursting of crackers, as air quality in Delhi and neighbouring regions plunges to hazardous levels.
But are green crackers really safe? Create no pollution?
Are They Really Safe?
According to CSIR, green crackers are significantly safer than conventional fireworks, but they are not entirely risk-free.
What Makes Them Safer:
Reduced Emissions: Lower levels of particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), sulfur dioxide, and nitrogen oxide.
Less Noise Pollution: Limited to 110 decibels, adhering to noise regulations.
No Barium Salts: Replaced with safer alternatives, reducing toxicity.
QR Code Authentication: Genuine green crackers carry QR codes to verify authenticity.
What Is Green Crakar?
Green Crakar is marketed as an all-natural plant-based health supplement, claiming to boost energy, improve digestion, support detoxification, and even enhance mental clarity.
The product typically comes in powder or capsule form and is made from a blend of chlorophyll-rich greens, adaptogens, and superfoods such as spirulina, matcha, ashwagandha, and moringa.
Its eye-catching name—“Crakar”—has left many confused. Some speculate it’s a play on “cracker” (implying a natural, crunchy snack), while others believe it’s just clever branding to stand out in a saturated market.
Do the Claims Hold Up?
Despite the hype, scientific evidence is still limited. Experts say the ingredients found in Green Crakar can offer health benefits when used properly:
Spirulina and moringa are rich in vitamins and antioxidants.
Ashwagandha may help with stress and anxiety.
Chlorophyll is said to support detox and skin health.
However, no clinical studies have been published specifically on Green Crakar itself. Dr. Melissa Chan, a registered dietitian, warns consumers to be cautious:
“While many of the ingredients are beneficial, combining them doesn't automatically make a miracle product. Plus, supplements aren’t regulated as strictly as medications.”
What Are Users Saying?
Online reviews are mixed. Some users report feeling more energized and focused within days of using Green Crakar, while others say they noticed no difference or experienced mild side effects like bloating or nausea.
On Reddit and Instagram, influencers post glowing testimonials—but critics argue these might be sponsored or biased.
Supreme Court has permitted sale and burning of green firecrackers
The Supreme Court has issued a significant ruling regarding firecrackers ahead of Diwali. The Supreme Court has permitted the sale and burning of green firecrackers in Delhi-NCR from October 18th to 21st.
This decision by the Supreme Court has brought a wave of joy to the people. Now, people will be able to buy and burn green firecrackers without any fear.
CJI BR Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran stated that they have considered the suggestions of the solicitor and amicus. They have observed that the industry is concerned. Traditional firecrackers are smuggled, causing significant losses. We must adopt a balanced approach. Of Haryana's 22 districts, 14 fall within the NCR.
They stated that patrol teams will regularly inspect firecracker manufacturers and their QR codes will be uploaded on the website.
