Chennai: The DMK seems to be softening its stand on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi. Party has backed Rahul Gandhi's protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The support for Rahul Gandhi's protest came a day after DMK questioned his silence over the alleged voter deletion in Tamil Nadu during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

Elangovan Supports Rahul Gandhi

Senior leader of DMK TKS Elangovan supported Rahul Gandhi's right to protest against the Election Commission and criticised the centre for preventing him from doing so.

TKS Elangovan said, "How can elections be fair if Gyanesh Kumar, holding a high post, is anti-democratic? He should definitely be removed. It is the right of the citizens to fight against the government’s wrongdoings, and that is what Rahul Gandhi did yesterday."

“This government doesn’t want Rahul Gandhi to protest against Gyanesh Kumar," he added.

On Tuesday, DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai lashed out at Rahul Gandhi, questioning why the Congress leader, who has been campaigning against the Election Commission nationally over SIR, is not speaking with similar force on the alleged voter deletion in Tamil Nadu.

DMK Criticises Rahul Gandhi

On Tuesday, while the Congress was protesting against CEC Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the SIR, DMK spokesperson Annadurai asked on X, "What’s the stand of @RahulGandhi with regard to the deletions through SIR in TN?"

He also asked Rahul Gandhi why he was not endorsing Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s position that state governments elected after the SIR exercise should be dissolved.

In the same post he further asked whether Rahul Gandhi was avoiding the Tamil Nadu issue because he was "afraid of @actorvijay", referring to Tamil Nadu CM and TVK leader Vijay. Accusing Congress leader of being “duplicitous" Annadurai concluded his post with the line, “Once a skunk, always a skunk."

DMK has alleged that a large number of voters were deleted from electoral rolls in the state during SIR process.
