Elder Brother Shares Emotional Memories

A wave of pride and excitement has swept through the village ahead of Justice Surya Kant’s arrival. Elaborate preparations are underway for a grand felicitation ceremony, which will be attended by family members, relatives, and a large number of villagers.
In an exclusive conversation with Dyamite News, Justice Surya Kant’s elder brother, Rishikant, shared emotional and insightful memories from the CJI’s early life. He recalled that Justice Surya Kant received his early education at the same government school in Petwar where the felicitation ceremony is being held today. At that time, the school functioned only as a high school.

Rishikant noted that Justice Surya Kant passed his Class 10 examination from this very school. The ground where the felicitation is taking place today was once his childhood playground. “Seeing him being honored at the same place where he once played is an emotional and proud moment for the entire village,” he said.
Speaking about his childhood, Rishikant described Justice Surya Kant as exceptionally bright and intellectually sharp from an early age. He emphasized the CJI’s remarkable memory, noting that even today, Justice Surya Kant remembers his school friends, classmates, and childhood experiences with clarity.
Highlighting the spirit behind the event, Rishikant said the felicitation ceremony is not being organized through any government funding or scheme. Instead, it has been entirely funded by the villagers through their own contributions, reflecting collective pride and deep respect for Justice Surya Kant’s achievements.

Rishikant also shared that Justice Surya Kant visits his village at least once every year. He regularly participates in programs organized by a small family-run trust, which encourages and honors village children for their achievements in education.
When asked about the motivation behind Justice Surya Kant’s rise to the highest judicial office, Rishikant clarified that it was not due to family pressure or expectations. Justice Surya Kant was the first graduate in the family. After completing his law studies, he began his legal career in Hisar and rose through the ranks through sheer hard work and determination.

He recalled that during the early years of his legal practice, Justice Surya Kant would study late into the night, often until 2 a.m. While the family has a strong educational background—his great-grandfather was a teacher, his father a former village sarpanch and Sanskrit scholar who received Haryana’s prestigious Surdas Award—his success was driven primarily by discipline and perseverance.
Speaking about the family, Rishikant said they have one elder sister living in Jind. Among the brothers, he himself is a retired teacher, one brother is a TB and chest specialist doctor in Bhiwani, and another is a retired instructor from Haryana’s Industrial Training Department. Justice Surya Kant is the youngest in the family but has reached the highest pinnacle of achievement.
