EC announces SIR in 16 states and UTs from 30 May

During this phase, over 3.94 lakh BLOs will visit homes of 36.73 crore electors, assisted by 3.42 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by political parties.

New Delhi: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Thursday announced the schedule for the third phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, covering 16 states and three Union Territories, beginning May 30 in Odisha, Mizoram, Sikkim, and Manipur.

“The Phase-III schedule has been designed in coordination with the ongoing house listing for the Census. This phase will cover the entire country except Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh. The SIR schedule for these regions will be announced later, considering the completion of Phase-II of the Census and weather conditions in snow-bound or high-altitude areas,” the ECI said in a statement.

House-to-house visits by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will begin on the following dates:

  • May 30: Odisha, Mizoram, Sikkim, Manipur
  • June 4: Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu
  • June 8: Uttarakhand
  • June 15: Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh
  • June 25: Telangana, Punjab
  • June 30: Karnataka, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Delhi
  • August 16: Nagaland
  • September 15: Tripura

During this phase, over 3.94 lakh BLOs will visit homes of 36.73 crore electors, assisted by 3.42 lakh Booth Level Agents (BLAs) appointed by political parties.

SIR is a participatory exercise, involving electors, political parties, and election officials. The ECI urged all political parties to appoint BLAs for each polling booth to ensure full transparency and active participation in the process.
