Kolkata: During voting for the second and final phase of elections on 142 assembly seats in West Bengal, a major controversy has emerged regarding EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines).

BJP leader Amit Malviya alleged on social media platform X that in some booths of the Falta assembly constituency, tape was placed on the EVMs, which hid the name of the BJP candidate.

Order for re-polling

Taking the matter seriously, the Election Commission conducted re-polling and announced strict action. It stated that re-polling will be held at all polling stations where black or white tape was found on the EVMs. Preparations for fresh voting at these booths have already begun.

Possible re-polling in entire constituency

West Bengal’s Chief Electoral Officer, Manoj Kumar Agarwal, said that if such irregularities are found in a large number of booths within any constituency, re-polling may be conducted across the entire constituency. The Commission has also ordered a detailed investigation into the matter.

Questions raised over election process

This incident has intensified the political atmosphere in the state. While the BJP is calling it election malpractice, the administration has assured a fair investigation and transparent voting process. The Election Commission is closely monitoring the situation.
