New Delhi: Rumours flooded on social media that the passports of Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protestors involved in the violence on July 20 in Delhi will be cancelled. But Delhi Police clarified now that no such decision has been taken, calling the claim "misleading" and asking people to rely only on official information.
Delhi Police in a post on X refuted reports that the authorities had decided to cancel the passports of the CJP protestors involved in the violence in the Jantar Mantar demonstrations on July 20.
The police wrote that “No such decision has been announced to cancel the passports of CJP protestors.” The police recommended that the public not share or spread the misinforming claims but instead look to official communication.
The clarification was issued following a number of reports saying that the authorities could start proceedings to cancel passports against those individuals identified as having taken part in the violence.

Reports claiming that the police had started identifying the inciting individuals in the July 20 conflict using CCTV footage and video recordings, as well as other technical evidence, spread widely. The reports also stated that passport cancellation proceedings could start under the relevant legal provisions.
But Delhi Police has now made it clear that no such decision has been taken, and that it was unfounded.

Violence broke out on July 20 when the CJP organised its 'Chalo Sansad' march towards Parliament over the NEET paper leak controversy. Clashes erupted between protesters and security personnel, leaving several protesters and police personnel injured.
The Delhi Police used tear gas shells and carried out baton charges to disperse the crowd. While protesters accused the police of using excessive force, the police maintained that it acted with restraint and only to maintain law and order.
After days of demonstrations, representatives of the CJP and some Union ministers are expected to meet at the Constitution Club of India to discuss the protesters' demands.
This is yet another parliament session adjourned due to the NEET paper leak Protest. Opposition parties have asked Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan to step down before participating in the debate. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju said the Opposition should allow debate.
Activist Sonam Wangchuk has also ended his hunger strike after the government gave written assurances on several key Demands (including no legal action against the protesting students, compensation to families of students who died by suicide, education reform) …The Supreme Court has also taken note of the government’s efforts to reinforce the examination system.
The viral claim is misleading. Delhi Police has not announced any decision to cancel the passports of CJP protesters. Citizens have been asked not to share unverified claims and to rely on only official information released by the authorities.
