Families of Injured Cops Move Supreme Court, Seek Safety Guidelines For Police Personnel Injured During CJP Protest

Families of four police personnel injured during the CJP protest have moved the Supreme Court, seeking stronger legal protection for officers, safety guidelines during protests and action against those accused of inciting violence.

New Delhi: The families of four police personnel injured while handling the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)-led protest at Jantar Mantar have approached the Supreme Court, seeking stronger legal safeguards for officers deployed on law and order duty.

The petition has been filed on behalf of the families of ACP Kailash Singh Bisht, ASI Sandeep, Constable Dheeraj and ASI Hemender Rathi, who were injured while performing official duties.

Plea Seeks Equal Constitutional Protection

The petition urges the apex court to ensure that police personnel receive effective protection of their fundamental rights under Article 21 of the Constitution, which guarantees the right to life and personal liberty. The petitioners argue that officers working in volatile situations should be provided with adequate legal safeguards while discharging their responsibilities.

Demand for Safety Protocols During Protests

A major demand in the plea is the framing of comprehensive guidelines for the safety of police personnel during protests, demonstrations and other law-and-order operations. The petition states that clear standard operating procedures for both male and female officers would help reduce risks during sensitive deployments and improve their overall protection.

Action Sought Against Those Accused of Inciting Violence

The petition also asks the Supreme Court to issue directions for fixing accountability on individuals who allegedly incite or provoke violence against police personnel. According to the plea, attacks on officers carrying out constitutional duties should attract appropriate legal consequences to deter future incidents.
