Free travel on Ganga Expressway ends today
Hapur: The period of free travel on the state's longest expressway—the Ganga Expressway—is now drawing to a close. The 15-day exemption granted by the administration will expire on Thursday, and toll taxes will be implemented on the expressway starting from the night of May 14.
The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has released the toll rates for the 594-kilometer-long Ganga Expressway, which stretches from Meerut to Prayagraj. The list of new rates has been made public at all toll plazas.
Toll to be Charged Based on Distance Traveled
No fee will be collected at the entry point of the Ganga Expressway. The toll will be collected from motorists at the exit point. This means that the toll amount will be deducted via FASTag based on the actual distance covered.
Currently, between 12,000 and 14,000 vehicles are traveling on this expressway daily. Vehicles are moving at speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour on this route.
Toll for Cars and Jeeps Could Reach Up to Rs1,800
According to the preliminary rates, cars and jeeps will be charged approximately Rs2.55 per kilometer. For the entire Meerut-Prayagraj journey, this amounts to roughly Rs 1,515. However, it is anticipated that the final toll fee could rise to as much as Rs1,800.
Meanwhile, for heavy vehicles such as buses and trucks, a rate of approximately ₹8.20 per kilometer has been fixed, which could result in a total toll of around Rs 5,700 or more for the entire journey.

Two Companies to Handle Operations
IRB Infrastructure Developers Limited constructed one-third of the Ganga Expressway (covering the Meerut region), while the remaining two-thirds were constructed by the Adani Group.
The toll amount will be deducted as a single transaction; however, the system will automatically allocate and distribute the revenue between the accounts of both companies. IRB Infrastructure Developers Limited is currently overseeing the first sector of the expressway, spanning from Bijoli in Meerut to Badaun.
Entirely FASTag-Based System
The toll collection system on the Ganga Expressway will operate entirely on a FASTag-based transit model. As a result, vehicles will not have to stop at toll plazas, making the journey faster and smoother.
