Major Gas Leak Triggers Fire at ONGC Well in Andhra Pradesh
Konaseema: A massive gas leak occurred at an operational ONGC oil well in Konaseema district of Andhra Pradesh, causing panic in the entire area. The incident happened when the well was being repaired by a workover rig after production had been temporarily shut down.
During the repair work, a loud explosion occurred, and a large quantity of gas mixed with crude oil was released into the air. The well is located in Irsusumanda village in the Rajole area.
According to local authorities, the leaked gas immediately caught fire. Residents and officials in the vicinity were alarmed. A cloud of gas and smoke spread like a thick fog over Sumanda and the surrounding areas. The administration immediately evacuated nearby villages.
Many people had already fled their homes and moved their livestock to safer places. People were advised not to use electricity, switch on any appliances, or light stoves.
ONGC personnel are on the spot and are working to control the leak and extinguish the fire. Authorities have cordoned off the entire area, and all necessary steps are being taken to ensure safety.
