Ghaziabad: The Ghaziabad Commissionerate Police has intensified its drive against illegal encroachments on public land across the district, invoking Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS). As part of the campaign, notices have been served to more than 12,000 encroachers over the past four months.

According to police officials, over 4,000 individuals have already cleared encroachments and formally informed the police. Authorities stated that unauthorized occupation of public spaces causes serious inconvenience to residents, prompting continuous surveillance of major markets and high-traffic areas. Police teams regularly issue notices to those found violating the rules.

Traders Protest Against Illegal Street Market Near Chopla

Meanwhile, traders held a protest near Chopla Market opposing the operation of an illegal street market in the area. Owing to strict enforcement by the district administration and the municipal corporation, the market could not be set up this time.

Officials said the area had been barricaded since Saturday. On Sunday morning, teams from the Municipal Corporation’s City Zone, along with Nagar Kotwali police, ensured that no vendors were allowed to occupy the space.

Ghaziabad Mayor Sunita Dayal, speaking from Lucknow, reportedly issued clear instructions that the street market should not be permitted under any circumstances. Acting on these directions, the administration and civic authorities successfully prevented the illegal setup.

Traders Warn of Stronger Agitation

Trader leader Raju Chhabra and local councillor Rajiv Sharma warned that if attempts are made to restart the street market, traders will escalate their protest. They urged shopkeepers to unite against the illegal market, claiming it has expanded beyond designated areas and now obstructs residential entrances, severely affecting daily life.

Local residents Haji Chaman and Imran Rizwan said the situation becomes unbearable on Sundays, as congestion makes it difficult to step out of their homes and poses problems for children. During the protest, some women also raised concerns, though traders helped maintain calm.

Several traders and community members were present at the protest, including Subhash Chhabra, Manveer Nagar, Anil Sanwariya, Suresh Mahajan, Sanjeev Loharia, Hari Mehta, Dharampal Kukreja, Dinesh Sisodia, Subhash Bajrangi, Pappu Lahoria, Anurag Garg, Sunil Chacha, Udayveer Ladi, Akash Katiyar, and Praveen Sharma.
