Ahmedabad: The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad has arrested two individuals for allegedly conspiring to carry out anti-national activities and build a terror network. Officials said the arrests were made following intelligence inputs and sustained surveillance of suspicious online activity.
The accused have been identified as Irfan Kalekhan Pathan, a resident of Siddhpur in Gujarat’s Patan district, and Murshid Zahid Akhtar Sheikh from Mumbai.

According to investigators, Pathan was under observation after inputs suggested he had been influenced by extremist ideology. A forensic analysis of his mobile phone reportedly revealed contacts with suspected radical elements through platforms such as WhatsApp and Instagram.
Officials allege that he used these channels to spread extremist propaganda and connect with like-minded individuals across different regions, with the aim of expanding a network.
Preliminary findings suggest that the accused were attempting to recruit youth and organise training related to weapons handling and the use of explosives. Investigators also claim that discussions included plans to establish a larger network with ideological objectives and coordinated activities.
Authorities further stated that the suspects were allegedly exploring ways to arrange funding and facilitate the movement of arms through cross-border links.
During the investigation, the involvement of Sheikh came to light. A joint operation involving Gujarat ATS and Maharashtra Police led to his detention and subsequent arrest.

Officials said material recovered from his phone indicated his alleged role in the broader conspiracy. Both accused are now in custody as agencies continue to examine digital evidence and possible connections.
A case has been registered under provisions related to criminal conspiracy and waging war against the government. A local court has remanded both accused to ATS custody for further interrogation.
Authorities said the investigation is ongoing to identify additional individuals who may be linked to the suspected network. Security agencies continue to monitor digital platforms closely to prevent similar activities and ensure public safety.
