Chitragupta Worship Story
According to mythology, there was once a tyrannical king named Saudasa. He was ruthless and oppressed his subjects. One day, while traveling through his kingdom, he saw a Brahmin performing a puja. Curious, the king asked, “Which deity are you worshipping?” The Brahmin replied, “Today is Kartik Shukla Dwitiya, and I am worshipping Chitragupta Maharaj, the accountant of Yamaraj. It is said that this puja destroys all sins.”
Hearing this, King Saudasa worshipped Chitragupta and Yamaraj. After his death, when he reached Yamaloka, Chitragupta reviewed his sins and told Yama that he had committed sins throughout his life, but he had prayed with a true heart before his death, so he could not be sent to hell. As a result, he attained heaven.
