Jammu: Putting an end to the deadlock regarding talks between Ladakh-based organizations and the Central Government's High-Powered Committee, the Ministry of Home Affairs has convened a meeting of the sub-committee in Delhi on May 22.

This meeting will be attended by three members each from the Leh Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance, alongside other stakeholders. Issues concerning the Ladakh region will be discussed during the meeting. Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena announced this development on Sunday via his 'X' (formerly Twitter) handle.

Writing on X, the Lieutenant Governor stated, "I am pleased to announce that the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, has decided to convene a meeting of the sub-committee for dialogue on May 22."

He expressed hope that, through this meeting, a constructive and democratic dialogue with key stakeholders in Ladakh would pave the way for a permanent solution to fulfill the aspirations of the region's residents.

Dialogue Process with Ladakh Organizations Began on February 4

It is worth noting that the dialogue process with organizations from Ladakh had commenced on February 4; however, it failed to yield any positive results. Now, just ahead of Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to Ladakh, the Ministry of Home Affairs has announced the resumption of talks regarding issues concerning the region.

The dialogue process had stalled following violent protests in Leh in September 2025, an incident that resulted in the deaths of four people and injuries to dozens. During a meeting held last February, the Ladakh-based organizations had made it clear that future discussions must focus on core issues such as the demand for Statehood and the inclusion of the region under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution.

Home Ministry Has Not Yet Addressed These Issues with Ladakh Organizations

To date, the Ministry of Home Affairs has not engaged with the Ladakh organizations regarding these specific issues. Chering Dorjay, Co-Chairman of the Leh Apex Body, stated, "We received information about the upcoming meeting through the Lieutenant Governor's post on social media. However, we have not yet received any formal invitation from the Ministry of Home Affairs." A decision regarding whether or not to attend this meeting will be taken shortly during a joint session of the Leh Apex Body and the Kargil Democratic Alliance. He stated that organizations in Ladakh remain firm in their stance that discussions must now focus on the region's core issues.
