UP Flood Crisis: Ganga-Yamuna Swell, 173 Villages Hit In 13 Districts; 10 Dead In Rain Fury

Heavy rains have triggered a flood crisis in Uttar Pradesh as rising rivers affect 13 districts and 173 villages. With homes submerged and 10 deaths reported, rescue teams are working to control the situation.

New Delhi: Continuous heavy rainfall has worsened the flood situation in several parts of Uttar Pradesh, with rising water levels in major rivers creating trouble across districts including Prayagraj, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Banda, Mahoba and Bijnor. So far, at least 10 people have lost their lives in rain and flood-related incidents.

The administration and rescue teams are conducting relief operations in affected areas. People living in low-lying regions are being shifted to safer locations, while food, medical aid and essential supplies are being provided.

Ganga, Yamuna Swell in Prayagraj; Water Enters Homes

In Prayagraj, rising water levels of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers have flooded several low-lying areas of the city. Water has entered many houses, affecting daily life.

Important locations, including Rambagh Railway Station, the residence of City North MLA Harshvardhan Bajpai and the women’s police station, have also been impacted by waterlogging. In Kaushambi’s Mahewaghat area, a woman died after a wall collapsed due to heavy rain.

Rain-Related Accidents Claim Lives Across UP

Heavy rainfall has triggered several accidents across the state. In Pratapgarh, a farmer died after a thatched roof collapsed, while several others were injured after a mud house collapsed.

In Prayagraj’s Meja area, a youth lost his life due to lightning. In Bahariya, one person died after a tree fell during the storm. Several other rain-related deaths have also been reported from different districts.

Rivers Overflow in Sonbhadra, Several People Missing

The flood situation has become serious in Sonbhadra as the water level of the Bijul River continues to rise. In Parsoui village, river water is flowing over a culvert, disrupting movement.

Two people, Ramprit Kharwar and Bechai Bega, reportedly drowned in strong currents. In Rajmilan village under Bijpur police station, Lallu and Rajkumar are also reported missing after being swept away in the swollen Bichhi River. Rescue teams and local divers are searching for the missing people.

13 Districts, 173 Villages Hit by Floods

Relief Commissioner Hrishikesh Bhaskar Yashod reviewed the flood situation and directed district officials to speed up rescue and relief work. According to official data, 173 villages across 13 districts of Uttar Pradesh are affected by floods. Around 84,362 people and 13,058 hectares of land have been impacted.

Relief Operations Intensified, Thousands Shifted to Safety

The administration has set up 1,589 flood relief posts and 1,263 flood shelters in affected areas.

So far, around 4,845 people have been shifted to safer locations. Relief materials, including food packets and essential supplies, are being distributed among affected families.
