New Delhi: Weather conditions are expected to remain unsettled across several parts of India over the coming days, with the India Meteorological Department forecasting rain, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across multiple states. While southern India is likely to see the most significant rainfall, Delhi-NCR, parts of north India, the east and northeast are also expected to experience spells of rain and thunderstorms.
The latest forecast indicates that isolated heavy rainfall is possible in Tamil Nadu, Kerala and South Interior Karnataka. Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Puducherry and Lakshadweep are among the areas likely to receive repeated spells of rain. Several eastern, northeastern and central Indian states could also witness thunderstorms and lightning.
Delhi and neighbouring areas are likely to see scattered rainfall along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. The weather could remain unsettled through October 11, with stronger winds expected during thunderstorms.
On October 6 and 7, wind speeds could reach 40-50 kmph, with gusts touching 60 kmph. Winds of around 30-40 kmph, with gusts up to 50 kmph, are likely on October 8 and 9.
Haryana, Chandigarh and Punjab are also expected to experience similar weather conditions. Uttar Pradesh could receive scattered rainfall between October 6 and 10, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in some areas.
Southern India remains the main focus of the current weather activity. Tamil Nadu is likely to receive scattered rain through October 11, with isolated heavy rainfall possible on October 6. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds could continue through October 9.
Kerala is expected to see fairly widespread rainfall during the period, with isolated heavy rain possible on October 6, October 9 and October 10. South Interior Karnataka could also receive isolated heavy rainfall on October 6.
Andhra Pradesh, including Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema, may see scattered rainfall through October 11. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are likely during the initial part of the forecast period.
Lakshadweep is also expected to remain wet, with fairly widespread rainfall possible.
Eastern India is also likely to remain under a weather watch. West Bengal could see fairly widespread to widespread rainfall between October 7 and 9, along with thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds. Bihar, Jharkhand and Odisha may receive scattered rain and thunderstorm activity.
Sikkim is likely to experience increasing rainfall activity, while Assam, Meghalaya and other northeastern states could see intermittent showers through October 11. Arunachal Pradesh may receive rain through October 10, while thunderstorms and lightning are possible over parts of the region.
Central India could also see unsettled weather. Madhya Pradesh is likely to receive rain through October 11, while Chhattisgarh could see scattered showers until October 10. Thunderstorms and lightning are possible over parts of both states.
Jammu and Kashmir could witness fairly widespread rainfall on October 6 and October 9, with scattered showers possible on other days. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds are also likely during parts of the forecast period.
Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may receive isolated to scattered rainfall through October 11. Ladakh could also experience rain, thunderstorms and strong winds.
The latest forecast suggests that the weather will remain dynamic across India even as the southwest monsoon continues its withdrawal. For residents in areas under thunderstorm warnings, sudden changes in weather, strong winds, lightning and brief spells of intense rain could affect travel and outdoor activities.
With southern states facing the possibility of heavy rain and northern, eastern and northeastern regions witnessing thunderstorms, residents are advised to monitor local weather updates and warnings before making travel plans.
