New Delhi: The Government on Saturday cracked down on attempts by airlines to take advantage of the situation. The Ministry of Civil Aviation said in a release that it has used its regulatory powers to ensure fair and reasonable fares on affected routes. A fare cap has been imposed.

The IndiGo airline crisis continues, with a large number of flights cancelled again on Saturday. The crisis has also had a ripple effect, with other airlines significantly increasing fares due to the cancellation of IndiGo flights. In response, the government has taken action.

Directives To All Airlines
The government has issued official directives to all airlines, mandating strict adherence to the newly prescribed fare limits. This limit will remain in effect until the situation normalizes.

This means airlines will not be able to arbitrarily increase fares. According to the statement, “The objective of this directive is to maintain price discipline in the market, prevent any exploitation of passengers during this crisis, and ensure that citizens who need to travel urgently – such as senior citizens, students, and patients – do not face an undue financial burden during this period.”

Regular Monitoring
The Ministry also stated that it will closely monitor fares through real-time data and active coordination with airlines and online travel platforms. Any violation of the prescribed standards will result in immediate action.
