New Delhi: A major security operation was launched in Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore on Sunday as police and security forces conducted searches at 26 locations in connection with an ongoing investigation under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The searches were linked to alleged activities and connections of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI), officials said.

Multiple Areas Covered During Search Operation

The coordinated operation was carried out across several parts of Police District Sopore, including Sadiq Colony, Bomai, Goripora, Tarzoo, Shutloo Rohama and Behrampora Rafiabad.

Security teams were deployed simultaneously at multiple locations to examine premises and collect material considered relevant to the investigation. Officials said the operation was conducted under strict security arrangements, with forces maintaining a presence around the searched areas.

Investigation Into Alleged JeI Network

According to authorities, the searches are part of a continuing probe into the alleged activities of a network associated with the proscribed organisation.

Investigators are examining documents and other material recovered during the searches to determine further action in the case. However, officials have not yet shared details regarding any arrests or recoveries made during the operation.

SSP Sopore Confirms Action

Sopore Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Iftkhar Talib confirmed that the search operation was underway. He said further details would be shared after completion of the investigation process.
