Midnight Clashes Rock JNU Campus; Left, ABVP Trade Blame
New Delhi: Violent clashes erupted on the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus in Delhi during late night, creating a tense atmosphere. A dispute between left- and right-leaning student organizations escalated when a protest march escalated into a confrontation. According to students, the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m., when an altercation led to stone-pelting, injuring several students.
According to reports, the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) had called for the "Samata March." The march was moving towards the East Gate. The protesters were demanding the resignation of Vice Chancellor Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit and the revocation of a student's rustication order. The protesters allege that the administration, instead of engaging with them, allowed another student organization to intervene.
Left-backed organizations, including the All India Students' Association (AISA), alleged that activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) pelted stones near the procession site and attacked "unarmed students." They claimed that several students were injured in the attack and chaos prevailed on the campus.
The ABVP, however, has categorically rejected these allegations. The organization claims that Left-affiliated student organizations deliberately provoked the protest and later tried to spread misinformation. According to the ABVP, the students who incited the violence during the march are responsible for the violence.

Some videos shared by students during the incident show an atmosphere of chaos and fear on campus. However, no official statement was issued by the university administration until late at night. Students say the situation on campus remains tense and security has been increased.
JNU has been witnessing increasing controversy over administrative decisions and student politics in recent months. The latest incident has once again raised questions about the law and order situation and lack of communication on campus.
