New Delhi: In a significant development at the intersection of politics and law, Arvind Kejriwal has announced that he will no longer appear before the Delhi High Court in connection with the liquor policy case. Citing a lack of faith in the current proceedings, he said he would instead follow the path of Mahatma Gandhi’s “Satyagraha.”

The case stems from the Delhi liquor policy controversy. A lower court had earlier acquitted Kejriwal, but the investigating agency challenged the verdict in the Delhi High Court. The matter is currently being heard by a bench led by Justice Swarna Kanta Sharma.

Bench Change Plea Rejected

Kejriwal had filed a petition requesting that the case be transferred to a different bench. However, the High Court dismissed this plea. Shortly after this decision, he took the unprecedented step of refusing to participate in further hearings before the same court.

Kejriwal’s Stand: ‘No Hope for Fair Hearing’

In a letter addressed to the court, Kejriwal expressed dissatisfaction with the proceedings, stating that he does not expect a fair hearing from the current bench. He declared that neither he nor his legal team would appear in court moving forward in this case.

Framing his decision as a form of protest, he said he would adopt the principle of “Satyagraha,” emphasizing moral resistance while continuing his legal battle through other avenues.

Option to Approach Supreme Court

Kejriwal clarified that this move does not mark the end of his legal fight. He stated that he reserves the right to approach the Supreme Court to challenge decisions related to the case.

Political and Legal Reactions Expected

This decision has sparked widespread debate. Legally, it raises questions about court procedure and compliance, while politically, it is being viewed as a direct challenge to the judicial process.

As the case unfolds, attention will now shift to whether Kejriwal escalates the matter to the Supreme Court-and how the judiciary responds to his refusal to appear.
