Thrissur: A tragic road accident in Kerala’s Thrissur district claimed the lives of eight people, believed to be students from Tamil Nadu, after their car crashed into a parked lorry late Friday night.

According to police, the accident took place around 11:40 pm at Panambikkunnu in Kaipamangalam, when the car travelling from the Guruvayur side towards Kodungallur collided with a lorry parked on the highway.

The impact of the collision was so severe that all eight occupants died on the spot.

Rescue Teams Pulled Victims From Wrecked Car

Following the accident, local residents, fire and rescue personnel, and police teams rushed to the spot.

The victims were pulled out from the badly damaged vehicle and their bodies were later shifted to the mortuary of Thrissur Medical College.

Police officials said the vehicle had a Tamil Nadu registration number and preliminary information suggests that the deceased were students from the neighbouring state.

Police Probe Accident Cause

Authorities have started an investigation to determine the exact reason behind the crash.

Officials are examining whether the parked lorry had proper safety markings or warning signals and whether speed or poor visibility played any role in the accident.

The incident has triggered grief among families and raised fresh concerns over highway safety, especially regarding vehicles parked on busy roads at night.
