New Delhi: The government has extended the last date for insuring Kharif crops under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana.

Farmers struggling with natural disasters can get insurance till August 30 and non-borrowers till August 14.

District Agriculture Officer said that so far 20,238 farmers have joined this scheme in Lakhimpur district, whereas last year this figure was only 6495. It is clear from this that this time farmers are showing more enthusiasm about it.

Which crops are under the scope of insurance?

District Agriculture Officer said that loanee farmers should contact their respective banks and ensure whether their crop has been insured or not. If insurance has not been done yet, then immediately inform the bank and get the insurance done. Let us tell you that this year in the Kharif season, notified crops like paddy, maize, urad and groundnut are under the scope of insurance.

Insurance benefits will be available in this situation

Farmers who will get crop insurance will get the benefit of insurance in case of crop damage due to natural disasters like hailstorm, unseasonal rain, waterlogging, cloudburst, lightning, cyclone, landslide, pests and diseases etc. This time Universal Sompo Insurance Company Limited has been selected for insurance. If farmers want to claim in case of crop damage, they will have to inform on toll free number 14447 within 72 hours.

Farmers will also be able to get other information related to the scheme from this number. The District Agriculture Officer has appealed to all the farmers to get more and more farmers to join this scheme. He appealed that more and more farmers should join this scheme and secure their hard-earned crops. He said that the insurance scheme is a safety shield for the farmers, which will prove helpful in managing their livelihood in adverse circumstances.
