New Delhi: Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri on Friday firmly dismissed widespread speculation about a possible lockdown in India, calling such claims “completely false” and baseless.

In a post on X, the minister clarified that the Government of India is not considering any proposal to impose a nationwide lockdown. His statement comes amid growing rumours circulating on social media platforms, which had triggered confusion and concern among citizens in several parts of the country.

No Lockdown Proposal Under Consideration

Addressing the issue directly, Puri stated, “Rumours of a lockdown in India are completely false. Let me state this clearly, there is no such proposal under consideration by the Government of India.”

His remarks aim to put an end to speculation that has been spreading rapidly online, particularly through unverified messages and forwards. Officials believe such misinformation can create unnecessary panic, especially given the public’s past experiences during emergency restrictions.

The Union Minister also urged citizens to remain calm and act responsibly. He emphasized the importance of relying only on official sources for information and avoiding the spread of unverified claims.

“Attempts to spread rumours and create panic in such a situation are irresponsible and harmful,” Puri noted, highlighting the potential consequences of misinformation on public order and sentiment.

Government Monitoring Situation Closely

While dismissing lockdown rumours, sources indicate that the government continues to closely monitor the overall situation and remains prepared to take necessary steps if required. However, there is currently no indication of any restrictive measures being planned.

Authorities have repeatedly advised the public to verify information before sharing it, as misinformation can escalate anxiety and disrupt normal life.
