Washington: Even as diplomatic engagements with Iran continue, the United States is reportedly weighing the deployment of an additional 10,000 ground troops to West Asia, according to a report cited by the The Jerusalem Post from the The Wall Street Journal.
The report, indicates that officials from the Department of War have discussed sending a combination of infantry units and armoured vehicles to the region. The proposed deployment would come in addition to the already stationed 82nd Airborne Division, a rapid-response force known for its strategic mobility.

According to defense analysts cited in the report, the presence of the 82nd Airborne Division is believed to be aimed at safeguarding key strategic interests, including Iran-linked assets such as Kharg Island. However, the exact location and operational role of the additional troops remain unclear.
Responding to the development, Deputy White House Press Secretary Anna Kelly said that any official confirmation would come directly from the Department of War. “As we have said, President Donald Trump always has all military options at his disposal,” she stated.

The developments come as the US-Israel and Iran conflict stands in its fourth week now. Earlier, US President Trump signalled a thaw in operations against Iran, saying that Iran had sought a seven-day pause on American strikes targeting its energy infrastructure, but he decided to extend the window to 10 days to April 6, however the strikes by the combined US-Israel forces continue.
Meanwhile, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) announced the launch of the 83rd wave of Operation True Promise 4 in the early hours of Friday, which targeted key American and Israeli military installations across the region with advanced missiles and drones.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for US Central Command declined to comment on the report.
The potential troop increase signals heightened military preparedness by Washington, even as diplomatic channels with Tehran remain open-underscoring a dual-track approach of negotiation backed by strategic deterrence in the region.
