Gurugram: The ongoing LPG shortage in Gurugram is worsening, hitting both households and industries hard. In response, the administration has rolled out a new measure aimed at providing limited relief-but concerns over its implementation persist.
5 kg Cylinders Only for Select Beneficiaries
To support laborers, authorities have introduced 5-kilogram LPG cylinders. However, these are being issued only to individuals identified as genuinely in need, primarily daily wage workers and laborers.
Refill bookings for these smaller cylinders are allowed once every nine days, and Aadhaar card verification is now mandatory at the time of collection.
Ground-Level Challenges Raise Questions
Despite official claims, many workers report difficulties accessing the scheme.
Sawan Singh, a migrant worker from Bihar living in Sukhrali, said he was denied a small cylinder by a local agency, which cited strict eligibility criteria.
This has raised concerns about transparency and whether the benefits are reaching the intended recipients.
Industries Under Pressure
The LPG shortage is also impacting Gurugram’s industrial sector. Rising fuel costs have forced many small and medium enterprises to cut down production, leading to operational strain and potential job losses.
Consumers Face Long Waiting Periods
For regular domestic LPG users, the situation remains equally challenging.
A mandatory 25-day gap between bookings has been enforced
Even after booking, delivery delays are common
These issues have left many households-especially from middle- and lower-income groups-struggling to manage daily cooking needs.
Helpline for Complaints
To address grievances, the administration has activated a complaint helpline. Consumers can report issues by contacting the DFSC control room at:
0124-2868930
Rakesh Kumar, Inspector with the Supply Branch, urged residents to use the helpline to ensure their concerns are registered and addressed.
