PM Modi congratulates India women after Asian Game (Img: X)
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday congratulated India’s women’s cricket team after it won the gold medal at the Asian Games, calling the victory “A splendid triumph for Indian cricket!”
In a post on X, PM Modi extended his “Heartiest congratulations” to the team, praising what he described as a commanding performance marked by confidence, skill and “wonderful teamwork”.
The Prime Minister said the victory had given India its first gold medal of this edition of the Asian Games. He added that the team had “made the nation proud” and would inspire “countless young cricketers across the country”.
“Best wishes to the entire squad: PM,” he said in the closing line of his message.
Modi’s message came soon after India produced a dominant performance to defeat Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the women’s cricket final at Korogi Sports Park.

Batting first, India posted a record 216/3, with Smriti Mandhana leading the charge with 79 from 45 balls. Shafali Verma scored 48 off 29 deliveries, while Richa Ghosh smashed an unbeaten 49 from 22 balls to provide a powerful finish.
India’s total became the highest-ever score in women’s cricket at the Asian Games and also the highest score in a women’s T20 final.
The bowlers then wrapped up the contest with equal authority. Deepti Sharma claimed three wickets, while Shafali Verma and Sree Charani took two each as Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 69.
The triumph also allowed India to retain the women’s cricket gold they had won at the previous Asian Games. It marked the country’s first gold of the ongoing Games and took India’s overall medal tally to seven — one gold, four silver and two bronze.
The emphatic win, built on aggressive batting and disciplined bowling, earned the team a congratulatory message from the Prime Minister and added another significant moment to India’s campaign in the Games.
