New Delhi: This year's Makar Sankranti festival is extremely special from an astrological perspective. On January 14th, a rare conjunction of Makar Sankranti and Shatila Ekadashi is occurring after 11 years.

This rare alignment last occurred in 2015. It is believed that this auspicious conjunction will resolve all difficulties and prove to be a blessing for unmarried individuals.

Astrologer Kasturi Roy Chowdhury says that on Makar Sankranti, the Sun enters the Capricorn zodiac sign. Bathing in holy rivers like the Ganges and Yamuna on this day is considered especially significant.

It is believed that bathing on this day absolves one of all sins and brings order to karmic actions. The auspicious time for bathing on January 14th will be from 3:13 PM to 4:58 PM. Shatila Ekadashi is one of the days dear to Lord Vishnu.

According to astrological calculations, the Ekadashi tithi (lunar day) begins at 3:17 PM on January 13th and continues until 5:52 PM on January 14th. There is also an auspicious time for bathing on January 15th.

This year, a rare conjunction of Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga is also forming. This year, Makar Sankranti will be celebrated on both January 14th and 15th. On January 14th, the Sun will enter Capricorn, and the Moon will be in Scorpio.

Special rituals to perform on the day of this auspicious conjunction

According to astrologer Chowdhury, one should wake up early on Sankranti day and add a little turmeric to their bathwater. Visit a Lord Vishnu temple, offer sesame seeds and jaggery, and distribute sesame seed sweets (til rewri) as prasad (offering).

Reciting the Shri Vishnu Sahasranama on this day will be extremely auspicious. One should also chant "Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya Namah" 108 times.
