Magh Mela 2026 witnessed a rare blend of spirituality and patriotism at the Sangam on Republic Day. Saints, seers and Kalpvasis hoisted the Tricolour across the mela area as chants of “Vande Mataram” and the National Anthem echoed on the sacred sands.

Patriotism Meets Spirituality at Sangam on Republic Day
New Delhi: On the occasion of Republic Day at the world-famous Magh Mela 2026, the banks of the Sangam witnessed a remarkable spectacle of devotion and patriotism. The sands of the Sangam resounded with chants of "Vande Mataram" and "Bharat Mata ki Jai." Sadhus, saints, pilgrims, and devotees celebrated the national festival with reverence and pride by hoisting the flag at various camps with great enthusiasm. The tricolor, fluttering in the spiritual atmosphere, enhanced the divine aura of the fair area.
At the Nageshwar Dham Ashram in Sector 9 of the fair area, Dandi Sanyasis unfurl the flag along with the pilgrims. Swami Maheshashram Maharaj, Swami Brahmashram Maharaj, and Swami Shankarashram Maharaj jointly hoisted the tricolor. The national anthem was sung, and the entire area reverberated with chants of "Vande Mataram." In their message, the saints stated that nation and religion complement each other, and it is every citizen's duty to maintain the unity and integrity of the country.

Maghi Purnima, the next major bathing festival of the Magh Mela, will be celebrated on February 1. According to astrologers, a highly auspicious planetary and constellational conjunction is forming on this day.
Purnima Tithi: February 1, from 5:19 am to 3:46 pm.
Auspicious Yoga: Ravi Pushya Yoga will prevail throughout the day. Additionally, the conjunction of Mars, Mercury, Venus, and the Sun in Capricorn will create a "Chaturgrahaya Sanyog."
It is believed that bathing in the Sangam and performing charity on Maghi Purnima brings special virtue and blessings from the gods.
A large crowd gathered on the banks of the Sangam on Sunday on the occasion of Achala Saptami. In view of the large number of devotees, the administration barricaded several major routes, including the Alopibagh flyover, disrupting traffic in some areas. Police Commissioner Jogendra Kumar and Additional Police Commissioner Dr. Ajay Pal Sharma directed stricter security measures. According to SP Mela Neeraj Kumar Pandey, five additional PAC companies have been deployed in the Mela area.
The Mela area became increasingly tense when Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwarananda Saraswati of Jyotish Peeth accused the administration of a conspiracy. He stated that he expected justice not from the government but from the Sanatani community. His statement sparked intense discussion in the Mela area.
