The decision is being seen as a significant move aimed at expanding educational access and financial support for Maratha students across the state. Under the new policy, eligible students from the community will receive scholarships, reimbursements, vocational training assistance and various educational benefits currently provided to OBC students.

The state government has approved eight major schemes for Maratha students as part of the policy decision.
One of the key measures includes the extension of the post-matric scholarship scheme, under which students pursuing education after Class 10 will receive financial assistance.
The government has also included Maratha students under the Motor Vehicle Driver and Conductor Training Scheme to promote vocational skill development and employment opportunities.
Apart from this, dedicated scholarship support will be provided to students studying in secondary and higher secondary classes.
The Maharashtra government has further announced that Maratha students will become eligible for multiple reimbursement schemes covering educational expenses and academic assistance.
Importantly, students from Maharashtra studying professional courses in other states will also receive benefits under the newly announced policy. This includes admissions in both aided and unaided institutions.
The government clarified that any educational course currently eligible for OBC concessions will now also be accessible to Maratha students.

The decision also covers students admitted through institution-level quota after completion of the Centralised Admission Process (CAP). Students securing admission on vacant seats approved by regulatory authorities will also receive educational concessions similar to OBC candidates.
Another major aspect of the decision is that any future educational concession introduced for OBC students will automatically be extended to the Maratha community until further orders.
The Maratha reservation issue has remained politically sensitive in Maharashtra for several years. While legal and constitutional debates over reservation continue, the latest decision focuses specifically on educational welfare and student support.
Political observers believe the move could strengthen the government's outreach among Maratha youth and students, while also addressing long-pending demands related to scholarships, financial aid and educational opportunities.
