New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday warned that infiltration into India constitutes a “major security threat” and called for strict measures to identify and deport illegal entrants. Speaking at the ceremony where Nitin Nabin assumed charge as BJP national president, Modi emphasised that no country tolerates illegal immigration, and India must safeguard the rights of its citizens.

Infiltration a serious concern

Modi stated that infiltrators pose a direct threat to national security, adding that even the world’s most powerful nations actively monitor illegal entries within their borders. “Infiltrators must be identified and sent back to their country of origin. This is extremely necessary,” he said, cautioning against political parties that protect such individuals for vote-bank politics, which must be exposed to the public.

The Prime Minister underlined that illegal entrants exploit national resources, threatening the opportunities and rights of India’s poor and youth. He stressed that India cannot allow such practices to continue unchecked.

Urban Naxalism flagged as growing threat

Besides infiltration, Modi highlighted urban Naxalism as another significant challenge, claiming its influence is expanding internationally. “Urban Naxals target individuals who occasionally speak positively about the government or myself,” he said, alleging that even minimal support for the administration on social media, television, or print media can lead to harassment and social ostracism.

He added that for years, the BJP faced isolation and was treated as untouchable, but the country is increasingly recognising attempts by urban Naxals to undermine national interests. “Urban Naxals are continuously working to harm India,” Modi asserted, calling for vigilance against these tactics.

Political and social implications

Modi’s remarks came at a high-profile BJP event, signalling the party’s focus on both internal security and political narratives. By linking infiltrators and urban Naxalism to broader national interests, the Prime Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to law enforcement and protecting citizens’ rights.

The address also reinforced Modi’s broader stance on national security, illegal immigration, and ideological threats, framing them as key priorities for the government moving forward.

Looking ahead

With increasing focus on security and domestic stability, Modi’s statements indicate that the government plans to intensify measures against illegal entrants and vigilantly monitor groups perceived as anti-national. The speech sets the tone for both policy and political debates in the coming months.
