UAE President Arrives in India for Key Talks with PM Modi
New Delhi: United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will arrive in New Delhi on Monday on an official visit to India. This visit aims to further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and the UAE. President Nahyan will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during which key issues such as trade, investment, defense, energy, and regional security are expected to be discussed.
The UAE President's visit comes at a time of heightened tensions in West Asia. Escalating tensions between Iran and the United States, strained relations between Saudi Arabia and the UAE over Yemen, and ongoing political instability in Gaza have impacted the entire region. In-depth discussions on regional issues are expected between the Indian and UAE leaders.
During this visit, special attention will be paid to enhancing trade and investment between the two countries, cooperation in the defense industry, energy security, and renewable energy projects. According to experts, India and the UAE may also discuss reorienting future economic partnerships. The Ministry of External Affairs stated that President Nahyan is visiting India at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This is his third official visit to India since assuming office, and his fifth in the last 10 years.
The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) signed between India and the UAE in 2022 marked a major turning point in relations between the two countries. This agreement reduced tariffs on thousands of products, boosting exports of Indian engineering goods, pharmaceuticals, and electronics. It also boosted UAE investment in India's infrastructure, technology, and renewable energy sectors.
India-UAE trade reached new heights in 2025. Non-oil trade reached approximately $37.6 billion in the first half of the year alone, representing a 34 percent increase over the previous year. Both countries are rapidly moving towards the ambitious goal of reaching $100 billion in non-oil trade by 2030.
The UAE President will arrive in Delhi today at 4:20 pm. He will then meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 4:45 pm. He will depart India at 6:05 pm. This visit is considered an important step towards further deepening India-UAE relations.
