Imphal: Security forces in Manipur have arrested four active cadres belonging to three different banned underground outfits during coordinated operations across the state, police officials confirmed on Sunday. The arrests took place on Saturday from multiple locations in Imphal West, Imphal East, and Thoubal districts.
The arrested individuals were identified as members of Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), Kangleipak Communists Party (KCP) – Taibangnganba faction, and the Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Progressive) faction (PREPAK Pro). Officials stated that the operations were conducted based on intelligence inputs and aimed at curbing illegal activities linked to these groups.

Security forces apprehended Hemarjit Leishangthem, alias Lalu (31), a KYKL active cadre, from his residence in Singjamei Leishangthem Leikai under Singjamei Police Station jurisdiction. During the operation, authorities seized a mobile handset, an Aadhaar card, and an Airtel Airfiber device from him. The arrest highlights ongoing efforts to monitor and control KYKL activities in the region.
In another operation conducted in Imphal East district, Huyam Rameshwor Singh, alias Yaima or Tayai (67), an active cadre of KCP (Taibangnganba), was apprehended near Ayangpalli Road under Porompat Police Station. Officials recovered one mobile phone from his possession. This arrest is part of the continued crackdown on the KCP faction operating in the eastern parts of Imphal.
Joint security teams also arrested two active members of PREPAK (Pro) in Thoubal district for their alleged involvement in extortion activities in Wangjing. The arrested cadres were identified as Rajkumar Navy Meitei (32) of Wangjing Hodamba, apprehended from Wangjing Bazar, and Thongam Ronaldo Singh (27) of Lilong Arapti, Imphal East, arrested from Lilong Bazar. Authorities recovered a 36 HE hand grenade along with two mobile phones from their possession.

All four arrested individuals, along with the recovered items, have been handed over to the respective police stations for further investigation and legal proceedings. Police officials reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order in the state and curbing the activities of banned underground outfits.
The arrests underscore the proactive measures being undertaken by security forces in Manipur to dismantle underground networks and ensure the safety of civilians. Intelligence-based operations continue across the state to prevent any resurgence of armed activities by banned groups.
