Baramulla: Gaash Academy Baramulla organised a Mental Health and First Aid Awareness Programme at Government ITI Baramulla bringing together students, educators, social workers and other stakeholders to discuss emotional wellbeing, emergency preparedness and social responsibility.
The programme focused on encouraging greater awareness of mental health concerns among young people while highlighting the importance of knowing basic first aid during emergencies.
DySP Shahjahan Choudhary (JKPS) and DySP Headquarters BLA attended the programme along with speakers and guests including educator Dr Kiran Jeet Kour, educationist and JKESWA President Asiya Iqbal, Dr Attiya and social activist Shabir Ahmad. During the programme, speakers stressed the need to create an environment where people can openly discuss mental health concerns without hesitation. They highlighted the importance of timely support, guidance and access to appropriate help for individuals facing emotional or psychological difficulties. The speakers also underlined the particular importance of mental health awareness among young people, who may face challenges at different stages of their personal, educational and social lives.
The programme also highlighted the importance of basic first aid knowledge. Participants were encouraged to understand essential first aid practices that can help manage emergency situations until professional medical assistance becomes available.
The discussion sought to reinforce the idea that awareness and preparedness can play an important role in responding appropriately during unexpected situations.
An interactive session with students emerged as a key part of the programme. Young participants discussed their concerns and shared issues they encounter in their daily lives. The interaction encouraged students to seek support whenever necessary and remain aware of the importance of emotional wellbeing and personal safety. The organisers said open conversations can help young people feel more comfortable seeking assistance instead of dealing with difficult situations alone.
Gaash Academy founder Sheikh Mudasir, while addressing the students, highlighted the role of compassion and social responsibility in tackling emerging social challenges.
He said that the academy's focus on mental health and first aid was aimed at engaging with young people on issues relevant to their current circumstances. He also indicated that the academy would continue organising awareness and outreach initiatives.
The programme concluded with an emphasis on promoting mental health awareness, first aid knowledge and social responsibility. The organisers called for greater community participation in creating a supportive environment where people can seek help, assist others in distress and make informed decisions during challenging situations.
