Monsoon Session: 12 Bills passed in month-long Session of Lok Sabha; 14 introduced

The Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House sine die, bringing an end to a session marked by legislative productivity on paper but disrupted by persistent protest from the Opposition over the SIR in Bihar.

New Delhi: The Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die on Thursday amid persistent disruptions and protests from the Opposition. The Speaker Om Birla while announcing the adjournment lamented the "planned disruptions" by the Opposition almost daily, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

The Speaker said that during the entire month-long Monsoon Session, the Opposition made efforts to disrupt the proceedings of the House repeatedly. Birla said that it was time for introspection for all as not much discussion could take place during the session.

Giving information about the work done during the session, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that a total of 14 Government Bills were introduced in the House in this session, out of which 12 Bills were passed. He informed that on 28 and 29 July, a special discussion was held on Operation Sindoor, which concluded with the Prime Minister's reply. Apart from this, discussion on the achievements of India's space program started on 18 August.

37 Hours Of Discussion

The speaker said that this session included 419 starred questions, but only 55 questions could be answered orally. He informed that initially the target was to have 120 hours of discussion in the House, but due to planned disruption and deadlock, only 37 hours of discussion could be held.

Birla appealed to the members for decent language and dignified discussion and said that sloganeering and bringing placards in the Parliament premises is against the tradition of Parliament.

Rajya Sabha Hours

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh also said that the proceedings of the House were affected due to the deadlock. A total of 41 hours and 15 minutes of work was done in the Rajya Sabha, in which 14 bills were passed or returned. 64 members participated in the discussion on Operation Sindoor. He also wished the members for the upcoming festivals.

Earlier, Home Minister Amit Shah introduced a proposal to nominate 10 members of the House in the JPC for the 130th Constitution Amendment Bill and the Online Gaming Bill was also passed. After this, the proceedings of the Lok Sabha were adjourned indefinitely.
