Truck hits car killing five in Chhatarpur
Bhopal: At least five people were killed on the spot and two others injured after a speeding truck hit a car carrying seven family members in Chhatarpur district, police said. The car doors had to be broken to remove the bodies and help the injured.
The accident occurred between Mungwari and Chaupariya Sarkar villages in Baramalhara tehsil. The injured were reshed to Chhatarpur District Hospital in a police vehicle.
All the victims were going to bid farewell to their sister.
While talking to media, Chhatarpur ASP Aditya Patle said that the car was travelling from Chhatarpur to Shahgarh, and all seven victims belonged to the same family. The truck driver tried to flee the spot but was nabbed.
"From Chhatarpur, the car with seven passengers was going towards Badamlehra when it collided with a truck. Five of the passengers died on the spot while two others were injured who have been admitted to the hospital," said Aditya Patle
According to police, eight members of the Prajapati family were travelling in the car towards Shahgarh when the truck, coming from the Sagar side, crashed into them.
The impact was so severe that the car was reduced to a mangled heap, say locals. Local police teams, rushed to the site. The bodies had to be pulled out after breaking open the car doors. Two survivors were rushed to the Chhatarpur District Hospital and are undergoing treatment.
Police said the truck driver fled immediately after the collision. A chase was launched and the truck was intercepted on Bijawar Road. The driver has been detained and is being interrogated.
