Three people were killed and another was critically injured after a BMW plunged from the Coastal Road bridge in Mumbai.

The accident took place at around 5:20 am when the black BMW was travelling from Marine Drive towards Haji Ali. According to the Coastal Road Control Room, the driver lost control of the vehicle, reportedly because of speeding, causing it to fall from the bridge.

Three Killed, One Critical

All four occupants were rushed to the nearby civic-run Nair Hospital following the crash. Doctors declared three of them dead on arrival, while the fourth victim was admitted with severe injuries.

Two of the deceased were identified as Shanay Gajjal, 21, and a 17-year-old boy. The third deceased, a man believed to be around 25 years old, had not been identified, an official said.

The fourth occupant, an unidentified man aged around 20, sustained serious injuries and remains in critical condition in the hospital's trauma ward, the official said.

Police Begin Investigation

Police have launched an inquiry into the accident and are investigating the circumstances that led to the BMW losing control and plunging from the bridge.

The Mumbai Coastal Road is a 10.58-km high-speed freeway that connects Marine Drive in south Mumbai with the Worli end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link.
