The story of Goddess Katyayani is also very famous. Maharishi Vanami Katha's son was named Katya. Maharishi Katyayan, who did not have a son, performed rigorous penance for Mother Bhagwati. Pleased with his penance, the goddess blessed him to be born as a daughter. Then due to the power of the Trinity, Mother Katyayani was born in the house of Maharishi. This form is going to free the world from evils by killing Mahishasura and other demons. Therefore she is also known as Mahishasurmardini.
