Nitin Nabin assumes role as BJP National President; PM Modi attends ceremony

BJP leader Nitin Nabin has officially assumed the position of National President, taking charge of India’s largest political party. The five-time Bihar MLA was elected unopposed and took part in religious ceremonies before becoming National President.

New Delhi: BJP's new National President, Nitin Nabin, officially took charge on Tuesday. Five-time Bihar MLA Nabin was elected unopposed to the party's top post, and several senior BJP leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, filed their nomination papers in his support.

Visited religious sites before assuming office

Before becoming National President, Nitin Nabin paid obeisance at a temple and a gurudwara, seeking blessings for his new position. Several senior leaders, including PM Modi, Amit Shah, and Rajnath Singh, were present at the swearing-in ceremony at the BJP headquarters, offering their best wishes to the new President.

Nitin Nabin: A Brief Profile

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the center was founded in 1980, the same year Nitin Nabin was born. Nabin comes from a political family. His father, Naveen Kishore Prasad Sinha, was also a BJP leader and was elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly four times.

Nabin's Entry into Politics

After his father's death, Nabin entered politics in 2006 and became an MLA for the first time through a by-election from Patna West. He later began contesting elections from the Bankipur constituency and won consecutively in 2010, 2015, 2020, and 2025.

Ministerial Positions and Party Responsibilities

Nabin has held important portfolios such as Law and Justice, Urban Development, and Housing in the Bihar government. In December, he was appointed the BJP's Working President.

Nomination Support for Nabin

Nabin's candidacy for the post of BJP National President received widespread support. Several senior leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party chief JP Nadda, Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Nitin Gadkari, supported his nomination. A total of 37 nomination papers were filed, 36 from state party units and one from the BJP Parliamentary Party.

Nabin's political career and dedication to party leadership have led him to the position of National President of India's largest political party.
