New Delhi: The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has clarified that there is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or LPG in the country, amid rising concerns linked to tensions around the Strait of Hormuz.

Officials stressed that rumours circulating on social media are misleading and have triggered unnecessary panic buying in some areas.

Fuel Supply Remains Stable Nationwide

The government said petrol and diesel supplies are stable across India, with more than one lakh fuel stations operating normally and no rationing in place.

Authorities noted that isolated instances of panic buying were driven by misinformation rather than actual shortages. Oil depots have remained operational round the clock, with additional logistical support extended to ensure uninterrupted supply.

Strong Crude Supply and Refining Capacity

India continues to source crude oil from over 40 countries, ensuring supply diversification despite global disruptions.

Refineries across the country are operating at full capacity, with some exceeding normal output levels to maintain adequate availability. Officials confirmed that supply chains remain robust and fully functional.

Adequate Reserves to Meet Demand

The Ministry rejected claims suggesting critically low fuel reserves. It stated that India has sufficient запас, with around 60 days of stock currently available, including crude oil, refined products, and strategic reserves.

This buffer, combined with ongoing procurement, ensures that the country is well-prepared to meet demand without disruption.

LPG Supply Boosted, Imports Secured

Domestic LPG production has increased significantly, now meeting a major share of daily requirements.

Additionally, imports have been secured from countries including the United StatesRussia, and Australia to bridge any gaps. Oil companies are delivering millions of cylinders daily, with commercial allocations enhanced to prevent hoarding.

PNG Push Not Linked to Shortage

The government clarified that the expansion of Piped Natural Gas (PNG) infrastructure is part of a long-term clean energy strategy and not due to any LPG shortage.

Officials highlighted that PNG is more efficient, cost-effective, and environmentally friendly, with coverage expanding rapidly across urban areas.
