Ahead of Bakrid, the Delhi government has issued strict guidelines banning illegal slaughter and sacrifice of prohibited animals, warning of tough action against violations, animal cruelty and public dumping.

New Delhi: Ahead of Bakrid celebrations, the Delhi govt has directed officials to strictly enforce animal welfare laws and crack down on illegal slaughter activities across the national capital.

Development Minister Kapil Mishra chaired a review meeting with senior officials and issued detailed instructions regarding animal sacrifice, transportation and public hygiene during the festival period.

The government clarified that sacrifice of prohibited animals, including cows, calves and camels, will not be allowed under any circumstances. Authorities were also instructed to ensure that slaughter activities take place only at authorised and designated locations approved under the law.

Strict Action Against Violations

Officials have been directed to take immediate action against illegal animal transportation, unauthorised slaughter and incidents of animal cruelty. The government warned that criminal cases would be registered wherever violations of animal welfare laws are found.

The minister also stressed that no animal sacrifice should be carried out on roads, streets or in any public area. According to officials, buying and selling animals in open public spaces has also been declared illegal.

Authorities have been asked to maintain strict monitoring in sensitive areas and improve coordination between police, civic agencies and local administration during the festival.

Focus On Hygiene And Public Safety

The Delhi government has also emphasised cleanliness and proper disposal of animal waste. Officials were instructed to ensure that blood and remains from sacrificed animals do not flow into drains, roads or canals. Disposal must be carried out as per prescribed hygiene and safety standards.

Departments concerned have been asked to work together to prevent any health hazards or public inconvenience during the festival period.

Awareness Campaign To Be Launched

The administration plans to launch awareness campaigns through posters, social media and public outreach programmes to spread awareness about legal provisions related to animal welfare and civic responsibilities.

Kapil Mishra said protection of animals is not only a legal obligation but also a social and moral responsibility. He appealed to citizens to report incidents related to illegal slaughter, animal cruelty or unlawful transportation to the authorities immediately.
