New Delhi: US President Donald Trump, citing the escalating military tensions between India and Pakistan in May 2025, claimed in his State of the Union address that without his role, the life of Pakistan's prime minister would have been in danger. He stated that his intervention saved approximately 35 million lives and prevented both countries from a major conflict.
Trump also stated that in his first 10 months in office, he ended eight wars and prevented the possibility of a full-scale war by bringing India and Pakistan to the negotiating table.
However, Trump's speech was unclear as to what he was actually trying to convey. He appeared to mistakenly say that the Pakistani prime minister's life was in danger without his intervention. In reality, he likely meant that the Pakistani Prime Minister had told him that his intervention had saved 35 million people.

The State of the Union speech was considered Trump's longest to date. In it, he repeatedly claimed that his efforts had averted a potential war between India and Pakistan.
India completely rejected Trump's claim. India clarified that the counter-terrorism operations along the India-Pakistan border during Operation Sindoor did not involve any third-party mediation. India also stated that India's military action was in response to terrorist attacks supported by Pakistan and that there was no direct US intervention.
Trump's statement remains controversial globally. While the US president portrayed himself as a central factor in de-escalating tensions, India rejected this claim.
