Parliament Monsoon Session: Govt to push 8 Bills; Oppn to target Govt on Sindoor, SIR

New Delhi: The Parliament Monsoon Session begins on 21 July and ends on 21 August. There will be a break from 12 to 18 August for Raksha Badhan and Independence Day celebrations. That means there will be total of 21 sittings of both Houses, reports Dynamite News correspondent.

Eight Bills Likely To Be Tabled

The Government is likely to table 8 Bills during the session. The key Bills include National Sports Governance Bill, the Geoheritage Sites and Geo-relics (Preservation and Maintenance) Bill, the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill and the National Anti-Dop-ing (Amendment) Bill, the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, the Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, the Indian Insti-tute of Management (Amend-ment) Bill and the Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill.

Other Bills

Besides, the government is also likely to table the Income Tax Bill, 2025 during the Monsoon session. This Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha in February and was referred to a Select Committee of the Lower House. The panel has adopted its report on Wednesday.

The Monsoon Session is expected to have strong confrontations between the Government and the Opposition over the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Bihar, ahead of the state Assembly polls later this year.

The Opposition is also ready to corner the BJP-led Government and seek answers on Operation Sindoor and US President Donald Trump claims that he had averted a nuclear war between India and Pakistan by mediating a ceasefire.

President Rule In Manipur

During the Session it is also expected that the government will seek Parliament nod for an extension of the President Rule in Manipur. The state has been under president rule a number of times. Currently it has been under the rule since February 2025 for the eleventh time.

Pending Bills Before Lok Sabha

There are some Bills which are pending in the Lok Sabha for its approval. These Bills include the Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024, the Mer-chant Shipping Bill, 2024 and the Indian Ports Bill, 2025.
