New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to hold a major Gen-Z interaction in Varanasi on October 25, with around 30,000 young people expected to attend. The proposed event, likely at BHU or Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, comes as political parties increasingly focus on India’s young voters.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to interact with thousands of young people in his parliamentary constituency Varanasi on October 25, according to sources. Preparations for the proposed Gen-Z dialogue have begun, with the event expected to bring together around 30,000 youth aged between 18 and 25.
The programme is likely to be held either at Banaras Hindu University or Sampurnanand Sanskrit University, although the final venue is yet to be confirmed. The scale of the proposed gathering has already made the event a major talking point in Uttar Pradesh’s political circles.
Modi has represented Varanasi in the Lok Sabha since 2014, making the city an important political base for the Prime Minister.
The proposed interaction is significant because it places young voters at the centre of a high-profile political engagement. Students and first-time voters are increasingly becoming an important constituency, with education, employment, entrepreneurship, technology and career opportunities among the issues that shape their political conversations. For the BJP, the event also provides an opportunity to directly engage with a large youth audience in the Prime Minister’s own parliamentary constituency.
Banaras Hindu University is expected to be one of the possible venues for the programme, putting students from one of the country’s most prominent universities at the centre of attention. Sampurnanand Sanskrit University is also being considered as an alternative venue.
BJP district and metropolitan units, along with regional organisations, have reportedly begun preparations for the proposed event. The gathering is expected to combine a large youth interaction with a wider public programme in Varanasi.
The Gen-Z interaction is also being planned alongside a major air show in Kashi. The Prime Minister is expected to be present in Varanasi on October 25, when an air show is planned along the Ganga. The event is expected to feature military aircraft and attract large crowds.
The combination of the air show and the proposed youth interaction could turn October 25 into a major public event in Varanasi, with extensive security, traffic and crowd-management arrangements expected across the city.
The growing focus on Gen-Z comes amid a wider political effort to connect with younger Indians through social media, direct interactions and youth-focused campaigns.
Political messaging aimed at people aged between 18 and 29 has increasingly moved beyond traditional rallies and television appearances, with Instagram, short-form video and direct public interactions becoming important communication platforms.
The Varanasi event could therefore become another major test of how effectively political leaders can engage with a generation that consumes information and discusses politics differently from earlier voter groups.
The proposed event also comes amid heightened political attention on youth participation and emerging Gen-Z-led public movements. Recent student and youth protests have demonstrated the ability of younger citizens to amplify issues rapidly through social media and public campaigns. Political parties are consequently seeking to understand and engage with this demographic more directly.
However, the participation of young people in political events does not automatically indicate their support for any particular party or leader. Gen-Z voters remain a diverse group with concerns spanning jobs, education, technology, economic opportunities and social issues.
