New Delhi: A 48-year-old employee of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) in Pune allegedly died by suicide earlier this month, prompting police to register a case against three individuals, including two of his colleagues. The incident has raised serious concerns over alleged workplace harassment.
The deceased, identified as Amit Abhay Brahme, was found hanging at his residence in the Bhosari area of Pune on June 2. According to police officials, a suicide note was recovered from the scene.
In the note, Brahme allegedly claimed that he was subjected to harassment, humiliation, and professional isolation at his workplace. He mentioned that two colleagues, identified as Archana and Shaswati, repeatedly insulted him in front of others and pressured him to resign.
He also accused a friend, Vinod Palicha, of sending defamatory emails to his employer, which he believed impacted his work assignments and professional reputation. Brahme stated that he was being denied projects aligned with his expertise due to internal issues.
Based on the contents of the suicide note, the Bhosari police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertains to abetment of suicide. Investigations are currently underway.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Sudhakar Yadav confirmed that the allegations mentioned in the note are being examined and statements are being recorded as part of the inquiry.
Tata Consultancy Services has expressed deep sorrow over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved family. The company stated that employee wellbeing remains its highest priority and that it is cooperating fully with authorities.
TCS also acknowledged the allegations made against certain employees and said it is conducting an internal review to ascertain the facts. The firm reiterated its commitment to maintaining a respectful and inclusive workplace environment.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances leading to the incident, while the case has sparked broader discussions around mental health and workplace conduct in corporate environments.
