New Delhi: The political equation between Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has come under the discussion by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) about differences within the Congress leadership.
BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari has claimed that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is not receiving the prominence she deserves within the party, alleging that she was slideline during the event.
"The Rahul camp is insecure about the Priyanka camp and the Priyanka camp is being suppressed. Rahul Gandhi, who is undergoing his hundredth relaunch, is not talking about the people of the country or about the Congress Party today; instead, he is merely trying to sideline Priyanka Gandhi Vadra," the BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said.
The remarks have triggered fresh attention on the Congress leadership and the roles played by the Gandhi siblings in the party's political strategy.
Pradeep Bhandari referred to the INDIA bloc's rally at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan, questioning Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's absence from the list of speakers.
He also raised questions about her seating arrangement during the mock Parliament event held on October 31, alleging that she was not given an opportunity to address the gathering.
" Priyanka Vadra , who has served as the General Secretary of the Congress Party and is Rahul Gandhi's sister , was not allowed to speak today at the Ramlila Ground . Did Rahul Gandhi prevent her from speaking today? And not just today , even yesterday during the Mock Parliament, when Rahul Gandhi's relaunch exercise was taking place, Priyanka Vandra's chair was placed in the second row, and she was not allowed to speak there either" Bhandari said.
Based on these instances, the BJP spokesperson suggested that differences may exist within the Congress over the political roles and influence of Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi.
However, these claims represent the BJP's assessment, and there has been no independent confirmation of an internal dispute between the siblings.
Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, remains a central figure in the Congress's national political strategy. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, meanwhile, serves as a general secretary of the party and is also an elected Lok Sabha MP.
Both leaders have participated in the Congress's political campaigns and public engagements, although their responsibilities and approaches have varied across different political platforms.
The latest remarks have once again brought attention to the leadership structure and internal dynamics of the country's principal Opposition party.
The controversy emerged alongside the INDIA bloc's rally at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi, organised to raise concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Several Opposition leaders attended the gathering, including Rahul Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Mamata Banerjee, Akhilesh Yadav, Farooq Abdullah, D Raja and Mehbooba Mufti.
While the rally focused on electoral issues, the BJP's comments have added another political dimension to the developments surrounding the Congress leadership.
