Top news of the day
Gold and silver prices have been fluctuating steadily in the domestic futures market for the past few days. These precious metals once again came under pressure on Tuesday. Both gold and silver prices on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) traded lower than their previous close, raising investor caution.
Gold futures with April 2, 2026 expiry on MCX opened at ₹1,56,001 per 10 grams on Tuesday. Previously, the contract had closed at ₹1,58,066 per 10 grams. At around 9:55 am, gold was trading at ₹1,57,390, a decline of approximately ₹676 from its previous closing price.
Although gold touched a high of ₹1,58,070 in early trade, it failed to sustain there and succumbed to selling pressure.
The domestic stock market opened with a strong opening on Tuesday, the second trading day of the week. Key indices Sensex and Nifty opened with gains for the third consecutive session, driven by positive global cues, a rally in Asian markets, and continued buying by foreign investors.
In early trade, the 30-share BSE Sensex rose 247.01 points, or 0.29 percent, to 84,312.76. Meanwhile, the NSE Nifty rose 80.25 points, or 0.31 percent, to trade at 25,947.55. Buying sentiment was seen in major blue-chip stocks.
A deeply tragic incident has emerged from the Mahavan police station area of Mathura, where five members of a family were found dead in Khapparpur village.
The victims include a husband, his wife, and their three young children, who are believed to have died after consuming poison.
Preliminary investigations by the police point toward possible financial distress or domestic issues as the cause, though no official confirmation has been made so far. The incident has cast a pall of grief over the village, leaving residents in shock and mourning.
The weather in the country is set to change once again. The activation of a Western Disturbance in the second week of February could alter the weather patterns in many states, including North India. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of rain and snowfall in hilly areas, and dense fog in the plains.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the Western Disturbance will affect the Western Himalayan regions on February 10th and 11th. Consequently, rain and snowfall are expected in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand. Heavy snowfall is possible in high-altitude areas, further increasing the cold.
