New Delhi: The Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has approached the Supreme Court, challenging the systemic failure of the National Testing Agency (NTA) in the conduct of the NEET-UG 2026 examination.

Filed through Advocate Tanvi Dubey, the petition seeks directions to replace or fundamentally restructure the NTA and to conduct the NEET-UG 2026 examination afresh under judicial supervision.

What Does the Petition Demand?

The petition seeks a directive from the Court to the Central Government to appoint a more robust, technologically advanced, and autonomous body to replace the NTA for the conduct of NEET examinations.

The petition also calls for the constitution of a high-level oversight committee, to be chaired by a retired Supreme Court judge, which would also include a cybersecurity expert and a forensic scientist.

The mandate of this committee would be to oversee the re-conduct of the NEET-UG 2026 examination until a new, independent examination body is formally constituted.

The petition seeks a directive that NEET-UG 2026 be re-conducted under the supervision of a judicially appointed high-level committee until the proposed NEIC—or any interim oversight committee constituted by this Court—verifies and certifies the security of the revised examination process.

Furthermore, the petition seeks directions to adopt a 'Computer-Based Test' (CBT) model to eliminate risks associated with the digital locking of question papers and the 'physical chain-of-custody' process.

FAIMA has also sought a directive to the CBI to file a status report before the Supreme Court within four weeks regarding its investigation into the alleged paper leak of NEET-UG 2026. The report must include details regarding the networks identified, the arrests made, the individuals charged, and the progress of the prosecution.

The petition also seeks the publication of the center-wise results for the NEET-UG 2026 examination as soon as they become available, so that any discrepancies may be detected in a transparent manner.

Investigation of the Case Handed Over to the CBI

This petition was filed a few days after the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination, which was conducted by the NTA on May 3. This decision was taken following allegations of a paper leak, after which the Central Government handed over the investigation of the case to the CBI.

Reports state that more than 100 questions from "guess papers" circulating on WhatsApp and Telegram allegedly matched the actual examination paper.
