The senior cadre of the banned terror organisation suddenly collapsed while visiting the mosque for prayers and was later declared dead at a hospital.
Islamabad: Senior Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operative Qari Saeed Abdul Aziz has reportedly died under mysterious circumstances at Quba Mosque in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad. The senior cadre of the banned terror organisation suddenly collapsed while visiting the mosque for prayers and was later declared dead at a hospital.
According to reports, Qari Saeed Abdul Aziz had consumed food at an undisclosed location before reaching the mosque. After arriving at the mosque premises, he reportedly performed ablution and prepared to enter the main prayer hall. However, moments later, he collapsed near the entrance while removing his footwear. People present at the mosque immediately rushed to help him and attempted emergency medical procedures, including CPR.
Despite efforts to revive him, he remained unconscious and was later shifted to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The exact cause of his death remains unknown. Pakistani authorities have not confirmed whether the incident was caused by a medical emergency, suspected poisoning or any other reason. At present, there is no verified evidence to establish that the LeT operative was deliberately targeted.
Reports citing CCTV footage from Quba Mosque claimed that Qari Saeed Abdul Aziz arrived at the mosque carrying a bag. After reaching the premises, he handed over the bag to an associate and performed ablution before offering prayers. After completing the ritual, he reportedly collected his belongings and moved towards the prayer area. While sitting down to remove his slippers, he suddenly collapsed on the floor.
Other LeT members present near the spot rushed towards him and moved him to another location. They attempted to provide medical assistance, but he did not regain consciousness. He was subsequently taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead. The sudden collapse of a senior LeT operative has created questions regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident, although no official confirmation of foul play has emerged so far.
Qari Saeed Abdul Aziz was considered an important figure in Lashkar-e-Taiba’s organisational structure and was reportedly associated with the group’s Shoaba-e-Warasa-e-Shuhada department. According to security-related reports, this department was responsible for maintaining communication with the families of LeT militants killed during encounters in Jammu and Kashmir and providing financial assistance to them.
He was reportedly heading the South Punjab unit of the organisation’s support network, which managed records and financial assistance programmes for families linked to militants from areas including Multan, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan. His alleged responsibilities included preparing lists of deceased militants, maintaining internal records and coordinating monthly financial support for their families.
Security sources claim that Qari Saeed Abdul Aziz had been associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba founder Hafiz Saeed since the 1990s and was among the organisation’s trusted commanders. Reports suggest that he remained involved in operational activities, including recruitment and mobilisation of cadres, until 2017. Later, he was reportedly given administrative responsibilities related to the terror group’s internal network. His role in maintaining financial and logistical support systems for LeT cadres reportedly made him a significant figure within the organisation.
The death of Qari Saeed Abdul Aziz comes amid growing attention over mysterious deaths involving several wanted terror operatives linked to extremist organisations based in Pakistan. In recent years, individuals associated with groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed have died in separate incidents reported from cities including Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi and areas of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
Several of these individuals were reportedly linked to anti-India terror activities. However, investigations into many such cases have not publicly established the identity of attackers or the exact motive behind the incidents. Indian authorities have continued monitoring developments related to Pakistan-based terror networks, while Pakistan has faced international pressure over the presence and activities of extremist groups operating from its territory.
