Shaheedi Diwas: PM Modi leads the Nation in paying tributes to Udham Singh

New Delhi: The indebted Nation is paying heartfull homage to freedom fighter Udham Singh on "Shaheedi Diwas" today on Thursday, reports Dynamite News correspondent. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to social media X and paid tribute to Shaheed Udham Singh. He said that his bravery is an inspiration for the people of India. He was a freedom fighter who had lost his parents at an early age. Udham Singh was hanged to death on 31 July 1940, for killing the former Lieutenant Governor of Punjab, Michael O'Dwyer, to avenge the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. The Punjab Government has declared a gazetted holiday in the state on Udham Singh Martyrdom Day today on Thursday, 31 July. All government offices, schools and colleges to remain closed today. The Punjab Government has also decided to name Bhawanigarh-Sunam road as Shaheed Udham Singh Marg. Udham Singh Known By These Names Udham Singh lived abroad under the names Frank Brazil and Bava Singh, but in his diary he used to write his name only as Ram Mohammad Singh Azad (MS Azad). While being imprisoned in two prisons in London, he wrote dozens of letters and all of them had the name MS Azad written on them. Udham Singh's motive behind establishing himself as Ram Mohammad Singh Azad was to raise the voice of secularism in the minds of Indians.
