New Delhi: Union Ministers JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh met activist Sonam Wangchuk at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, shortly after he was shifted from Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital. The meeting came a day after the Centre held discussions with representatives of the ongoing student agitation, signalling continued engagement with the issue.

Shifted Following Delhi High Court Order

Wangchuk, who has been on an indefinite hunger strike since June 28 over alleged examination irregularities, was transferred to Medanta after the Delhi High Court directed authorities to move him to the private hospital of his choice. The order came while hearing a petition filed by his wife, Gitanjali Angmo, seeking specialised medical treatment.

Under Intensive Medical Supervision

After being discharged from Safdarjung Hospital on Tuesday evening, Wangchuk was taken to Medanta under tight security and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). He is being monitored by a multidisciplinary team led by internal medicine specialist Dr. Sushila Kataria. Hospital officials said his vital signs were stable at the time of transfer, although certain medical concerns continue to require close observation.

Political Tensions Continue

The ministers' visit coincided with escalating political tensions over the alleged police action during the recent student protests in Delhi. Opposition parties have accused the Centre of failing to address students' concerns, while the government has maintained that it is prepared to discuss the matter in Parliament.

Investigation into Protest Violence Underway

Meanwhile, Delhi Police continue investigating multiple cases linked to the "Chalo Sansad" protest. Several FIRs have been registered over allegations including unlawful assembly, stone-pelting, vandalism, unauthorised drone operations and damage to public property. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
