Safdarjung Hospital said Wangchuk's vital signs remain stable.
New Delhi: Activist Sonam Wangchuk has requested permission from Delhi's Safdarjung Hospital to leave the facility temporarily so he can participate in the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)'s 'Sansad Chalo' march to Parliament. In a handwritten letter submitted on Monday, Wangchuk said he was feeling "very fine" and that his health parameters were normal.
Addressing the Director of Safdarjung Hospital, where he has been undergoing treatment since July 18, Wangchuk said he was physically fit enough to attend the march. He requested permission to step out for a limited period, expressing his desire to join the protest before returning to the hospital if required.
The letter comes as demonstrations linked to the CJP continue in the national capital, with protesters demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and greater accountability over the examination controversy.
In its latest medical bulletin, Safdarjung Hospital said Wangchuk's vital signs remain stable. However, doctors noted that certain blood parameters still require close monitoring. The hospital added that he continues to receive treatment under the supervision of a multidisciplinary team of medical experts.
Meanwhile, Wangchuk's wife, Gitanjali J. Angmo, has questioned the restrictions surrounding his stay at the hospital. She has approached the Delhi High Court, arguing that he is effectively being prevented from leaving despite not being formally detained. She has also raised concerns over the family's ability to participate in decisions regarding his treatment.
The High Court has agreed to hear the matter.
The appeal comes on a day of heightened security in the national capital as thousands of protesters gathered around Jantar Mantar for the CJP's Parliament march. Police deployed additional personnel, anti-riot units and crowd-control measures, while several Metro stations were temporarily closed to manage the situation. Authorities continue to monitor developments amid the opening day of Parliament's Monsoon Session.
